Hamilton Kerr Institute

Fitzwilliam Museum

The Hamilton Kerr Institute are proposing a new archives centre to house and make accessible the collection of archives. The Institute is seeking funding to secure this centre.

The building will be single storey and styled architecturally to integrate with the surrounding buildings. The centre will provide specific storage and display areas for the archives, a study area, a computer laboratory and a digitisation suite. The latter will greatly enhance the process of making these precious and sometimes delicate archives available without charge via the internet.

It is proposed that power for environmental control and other systems for this building would be provided, at least in part, by re-instating a water wheel in the Mill building, providing a renewable source of electricity.
