Sebastiano del Piombo’s (1485–1547) Adoration of the Shepherds c.1510

A 10-year research and restoration project at the Hamilton Kerr Institute on Sebastiano del Piombo’s (1485–1547) Adoration of the Shepherds c.1510, enables the masterpiece to be redisplayed at the Fitzwilliam Museum for the first time in 70 years.

The project has come to fruition in the 40th anniversary year of the Hamilton Kerr Institute. The painting is one of the key Renaissance masterpieces from the Founder’s collection. Its history is remarkable and explains why the project at the Hamilton Kerr Institute has taken ten years to complete.

The 18th century frame for the Sebastiano has been adapted especially for the painting and generously donated by the Aldama Foundation.
