HKI wins 2017 Museum and Heritage Award

Conservators at the Hamilton Kerr Institute have won the 2017 Museums and Heritage Award for Restoration/Conservation for their Restoration of Sebastiano's Adoration of the Shepherds.

Mary Kempski and Youjin Noh of the Hamilton Kerr Institute were presented with the award for best project in the Restoration and Conservation category at the Museums and Heritage Awards ceremony in London on 17 May.

The award represents deserved recognition for the results of 10-year conservation and research project on one of the founding Renaissance masterpieces in the Fitzwilliam Museum's collection; Sebastiano del Piombo's (1485–1547) 'Adoration of the Shepherds' c.1510. The painting, painstakingly restored to its former glory due to the dedication of scientists, researchers, conservators and curators, is now on show to the public for the first time in 70 years, having been returned to the Museum's bicentennial year - 2016.
